Upper Cervical Chiropractic Serving Shaughnessy

Patients from Shaughnessy who want attentive, gentle care for the top of the spine will find it here at Jassal Chiropractic. Dr. Jassal has been seeing families in Vancouver for over 13 years, and his work centres on the nervous system and the body’s own ability to heal. Our goal is to build your body’s capacity to handle stress, whether it comes from a demanding job, an old injury, or the ordinary strain of everyday life.

The Atlas and Axis at a Glance

The first two vertebrae of the neck, the atlas (C1) and the axis (C2), sit just beneath the skull. They give your head the freedom to nod and turn, and they lie close to the place where the brain connects to the spinal cord. Because of that role, we look closely at how smoothly this part of the spine moves.

Where Neck Strain Begins

The neck takes a share of nearly everything you do: reading, working at a home office, driving, and turning your head to follow a golf swing or a tennis rally. Earlier injuries can also leave joints in the upper spine moving less freely. We ask about your routines and your history, then assess where your neck is working hardest.

Why Patients Come to See Us

Neck tension, posture strain, and lingering stiffness are what bring most people through the door. We do not promise a result for any single symptom. We look at how your upper spine and nervous system are working and support them gently, so your body can get on with the work it was built to do.

A Gentle, Specific Approach

We work from the inside out. We look for where interference has built up along the nervous system and we remove it with as little force as we can. Healing takes place in your body, often after you leave the clinic. Each plan is built around your age, your health history, and the demands of your week.

Your First Evaluation

We begin by talking about your health, your week, and what you hope to change. Next we check your posture and the movement of your neck and spine, and review nervous system scans. The doctors order digital x-rays only when they consider them useful. Before you go, we explain what we found and what we recommend.

Our Scans, Briefly

Our equipment adds measurements to the hands-on exam, and our facilities and equipment page describes it in more detail:

  • sEMG Asymmetry Scan: measures muscle tension on each side of the spine and shows where it is out of balance.
  • sEMG Amplitude Scan: gauges how smoothly the muscles supporting your spine are responding to nerve input.
  • EMG Rolling Thermal Scan: tracks temperature variation on both sides of the spine, which our doctors interpret alongside their other findings.
  • Heart Rate Variability (HRV): shows how well your nervous system adjusts to stress and recovers.

Torque Release Technique in Practice

We use Torque Release Technique, delivered with a small instrument called the Integrator. It produces a quick, light impulse at specific points on the spine, with no twisting of the neck and no force to resist. Many people who are tense or cautious about neck adjustments find it comfortable.

Small Changes for a Healthier Neck

Practical habits make a difference. Position a monitor so you look straight ahead, hold a book or tablet at eye level, and when you swing a club or serve a ball, rotate through your hips and shoulders as well as your neck. We offer advice that suits your own routines and keep it short.

Ongoing Care and Planning

Once we know how you are responding, we set a visit schedule and adjust it as the months pass. Some people prefer a short course of care, and others like regular visits that keep them moving well through the years. We support whichever approach fits your goals.

Shaughnessy was planned as an exclusive and prestigious residential area, and the 1914 Shaughnessy Settlement Act restricted development to single-family houses. Hycroft Manor, built from 1909 to 1911, stands on a hill at the edge of First Shaughnessy.

Many of its streets carry the surnames of CPR directors, such as Osler and Angus.
