“A surprisingly gentle adjustment” – This is a comment we often receive at our clinic from moms of newborns. Chiropractic adjustments come in many shapes and forms and often public preconception of pediatric adjustments differ vastly from the reality. Recently, we welcomed Avery to our Vancouver pediatric clinic for his wellness check. At 2 days old, his family noticed that he was having difficulty latching to one side and brought him into the clinic. Click our video to view what a pediatric adjustment looks like!
For newborns, Dr. Avtar Jassal checks their hip and pelvic rotation, latch reflex, spinal reflexes, skull symmetry, and checks their neck flexibility and muscle tone. The actual adjustment occurs when Dr. Jassal’s pinky fingers are holding the neck (Avery’s C1/Atlas). The pressure applied is very gentle. This gentle contact allows the bones and spine to move better.
Coming in to get checked in the early stages of life can result in long lasting positive effects on the quality of life for your newborn. From the start, his mother Margo was adjusted throughout her pregnancy and had an amazing home birth with her family, midwife and doula. Avery is sleeping well, has regular bowel movements, and latches much better now!
